Shabery Cheek says democracy was the winner
PARLIAMENT, July 16 - Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek called last night's fuel price debate a victory for openness.
"I don't think there was a winner or loser as we both got our views across. Democracy was the real winner and I hope this begins a culture of debate and institutionalises it in our political landscape," he said.
He also said that he was satisfied with his own performance in last night's one-hour debate with PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim which was broadcast "live" over Astro Awani, TV9 and Bernama TV at 9pm with a delayed telecast over TV3 at 11pm.
"I got hundreds of SMSes, like I won an election. Some said I did very well, some were angry with me."
He also denied that he had made personal attacks on Anwar last night but was merely establishing Anwar's lack of credibility.
"We need to establish what were his prior policies to see if his ideas today have credibility. I was not making personal attacks such as critcising his clothes, his preferences, his face. But when he referred to my time at Semangat 46, now that was a personal attack." - TheMalaysianInsider
